Common questions

How do I receive today's teaching?

Open Daily Buddha and rest your finger on the lotus near the bottom of the screen. The lotus opens and glows, and today's teaching is read to you while your finger stays there. If you lift your finger, the voice pauses. Touch the lotus again and it continues. A quick tap does nothing; the app is made for a quiet minute of holding.

What is a teaching?

In this app, a teaching is a short reflection in the spirit of the Buddha's teaching, written for you in plain words, a few sentences long. Each one closes with a line from the Dhammapada or the suttas. The Pali is shown on the screen, with its meaning in English beneath it and where it comes from, such as the Dhammapada verse or the name of the sutta.

The voice reads the reflection and the English meaning. The Pali is shown for you to read yourself, and is not read aloud.

Where do the Buddha's words come from?

Every closing line is referenced to the Pali canon: the Dhammapada by verse, the best‑known suttas by name, and otherwise the collection and number. The English meanings are plain renderings written to be easy to understand, not a published translation. The reflections themselves are original writing in the spirit of the teaching; they are not presented as the Buddha's own words. If you believe anything is mistaken, please write to us. We take corrections seriously.

Do I need to be a Buddhist?

No. The teachings are about kindness, patience, gratitude, letting go and a steady mind, and anyone is welcome to listen. Nothing in the app asks you to pray or to hold any belief, and nothing in it depicts the Buddha; the lotus is the flower of the tradition.

I can't hear the voice.

Press the volume up button on the side of your iPhone while your finger is on the lotus. If you use headphones or a hearing aid, check that it is connected. The teaching also appears on the screen as it is read.

My reminders aren't arriving.

Open the iPhone Settings app, tap Notifications, then Daily Buddha, and turn on Allow Notifications. You can change the morning reminder time inside Daily Buddha: tap the gear in the top corner, then Morning reminder.

If you haven't received your teaching by 8 PM, the app sends one gentle evening reminder so your streak stays safe. Reminders are set up each time you open the app, so opening it every few days keeps them coming.

What happens if I miss a day?

Your streak starts again from the beginning, but you never miss a teaching. The next time you open the app, you'll receive the teaching that was waiting for you.

Can I hear an earlier teaching again?

Yes. Tap the gear in the top corner, then Past teachings. Tap any teaching to read it again, with its Pali, or tap Listen to hear it.

How much does it cost?

Your first teaching is free, so you can hear one before deciding. After that, Daily Buddha is $5.99 per month in the United States (prices in other countries are shown in the app before you subscribe). You can cancel at any time.

How do I cancel my subscription?

In Daily Buddha, tap the gear, then Manage subscription. Or open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then Daily Buddha.

Cancel at least a day before your current month ends to avoid being charged for the next one. Apple handles all billing, so we can't cancel or refund a subscription for you. For a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

I got a new iPhone. How do I get my subscription back?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, open Daily Buddha, and tap Restore purchase. Your streak and past teachings are kept on your iPhone. They come along if you set up your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup.

Whose voice reads the teaching?

Each teaching is read by an AI‑generated voice, chosen to sound warm, calm and natural. Every teaching was recorded ahead of time, so it works even without an internet connection.

Does Daily Buddha collect my information?

No. There is no account to create, and nothing you do in the app is sent to us. Read our Privacy Policy for details.
